About this event
Kurdistan, a mountainous area made up of parts of Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria, is home to one of the largest ethnic groups in the region: the Kurds. Now, most in the West know them for their small, oil-rich autonomous region in northern Iraq called Iraqi Krudistan--one of the United States' closer allies in the Middle East and a bulwark against the expansion of the so-called Islamic State. What does the success of Iraqi Kurdistan mean for Kurds in the surrounding region? Great Decisions guest speaker Henry Berman has personal ties to the Middle East region and has visited there seven times since 2008. In recent years, he has given presentations throughout the state on the Syrian refugee crisis, the U.S.-Israel relationship, and Egypt and the Arab Spring. Ginny and Will Craig host at Winslow House.
