Come and walk along the banks of the first American settlement in Minnesota, where there is evidence of habitation 10,000 years ago. Tour Coldwater Spring, a park in progress, where oak savannah, prairie, and bluff top woodlands have been restored from a former Bureau of Mines site and where the old springhouse and reservoir remain. A pleasant country-like walk and interesting story of settlement, later use, and restoration come together on a terrain that is accessible to all walkers. It’s an easy bike ride from downtown, please note whether you’d like to bike when registering.
The park is located between Minnehaha Park and Fort Snelling, about 10 miles downstream from the Mill District. The bike path follows the flowing route of West River Road, Edmund Blvd, Godfrey Pkwy, and Minnehaha Pkwy. An alternative route is to take Hiawatha Ave to 54th St, turn left, turn right on Minnehaha Park Dr S and follow signage for Coldwater Springs. There are 12 free and 2 handicapped parking spaces, as well as metered parking along Minnehaha Park Dr. We'll meet at the stone structure by the parking area to start the tour.
