About this event
It's been 4 years since the murder of George Floyd drew attention to systemic problems within the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD). The recent Settlement Agreement with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights and the Consent Decree with the U.S. Department of Justice have paved the pathway to reform.
The League of Women Voters (LWV) Minneapolis has studied and followed the progress and challenges for more than 4 years. As a result, they developed the position of supporting fair and adequate law enforcement for all people and supporting measures to ensure equal justice for all persons regardless of race and socioeconomic status.
This year, the mayor and every city council seat will be up for election. LWV Minneapolis would like the opportunity to educate voters on this subject before the very consequential municipal election.
Join us as we hear from the LWV Minneapolis as they discuss their Public Safety policy position, the state and city reforms to date, the next steps in the reform process and how you can get involved.
