Let’s talk apples! Dr. Emily Hoover, professor and head of the Department of Horticultural Science at the University of Minnesota, will discuss this fall favorite, including the cultivars that grow in Minnesota and the importance of apple breeding and production research. The U of M’s apple breeding program, led by faculty in the Department of Horticultural Science, has developed many well-known apple cultivars since Minnehaha was introduced back in 1920. Recent introductions include Honeycrisp, Zestar! and SweeTango. We’ll conclude with an apple tasting.
